 Research contents

This project involves a detailed analysis of molecular mechanisms underlining key steps in the genetic processes (e.g., DNA replication) and their control in extremophilic archaea (i.e., hyperthermophilic archaea, extremely halophilic archaea and their extrachromosomal genetic elements) through the use of biochemical, molecular biological, genetic and proteomic approaches.

 Anticipated objective

This project is expected to achieve the following goals:
(1) to increase our understanding of the molecular details of genetic processes, such as DNA replication, and their regulation in extremophilic Archaea;
(2) to construct molecular tools useful in the genetic manipulations of extremophilic Archaea;
(3) to generate knowledge and technologies for the exploitation of archaeal resources.
